Nut en Nadeel van het Promoveren in de Kunsten

Debat Investigations II

PDF

Central in the debate is the question why an artist chooses to do a Ph.D. What are the advantages of it, how to approach it when you are starting it up, what does is precisely contain and what does it all entail?

In the introduction Jeroen Boomgaard will handle doing a Ph.D. in science and the emergence of the idea of a Ph.D. in the arts in the Netherlands. What can be expected of it and which pitfalls and views are hidden in this course?

The five speakers will be asked to shortly describe the subject of their research, why they want to do a Ph.D., what they expect of it and how they have approached it up until now.

In the final debate the panel chairman will go into the specific requirements of such a course and its consequences: the role of the text, the role of the artistic work, the effects for the own practice, the changing of the nature of the artist and the possible meaning for the art discourse in the general sense.

The debate is a cooperation of the Lectoraat Art & Public Space (LAPS) van de Gerrit Rietveld Academie en DeFKa, Departement voor Filosofie en Kunst – Assen. “Investigations I” took place in DeFKA/SMAHK in May 2011.
